"Stunning area that really deserves a stop if you are in the region."

Tania Guerra

"The present-day Serravalle district, part of the Municipality of Vittorio Veneto, has very ancient origins. While it's possible that its strategic position controlling access to the Lapisina Valley, or Fadalto Valley, motivated the Romans to build a fortified garrison to defend nearby Ceneda, the first certain evidence of local construction concerns the castle, built by order of a Gothic dignitary. In later times, Serravalle was ruled by the Lombards and then by Charlemagne's Franks. It resisted the assaults of the Hungarians, was granted as a fief to a group of noble families by the Count Bishop appointed by Otto I of Saxony, and became the seat of the Lordship of the powerful da Camino family, who held it until 1335.
This rapid succession of changes in the dominion over Serravalle and its territory has brought us only to the beginning of the 14th century, but the next seven centuries were no less significant, which explains why this village so clearly demonstrates having benefited from an economically prosperous past, which reached its peak between the second half of the 14th century and the second half of the 17th century."
