Fondamenta Nove is a highly convenient Vaporetto stop, praised for its accessibility to key islands like Murano, Burano, and San Michele, as well as the airport. Some users reported aggressive ticket agents, which marred their experience.
"Convenient water taxi station to San Michele island cemetery and Murano Island"

"There are limited cheap options for travelling around Venice. I’ve read criticism of the Venice waterbus system. Yes it’s more than a bit confusing and DON’T USE THE AVM VENIZIA APP to buy tickets 🎫, ( although it’s good at showing times)
BUT the public waterbus is a FANTASTIC way to see Venice from the water both in the day and at the night. Try and get seats outside either at the back or front.
I would really recommend getting the one, (€25) two (€35) or three day pass (€45). It’s €9.50 for a 75 mins or
The waterbus that goes in front of the Dogges Palace is well worth catching. One of the waterbus routes goes along the Grand Canal. Also use the waterbus stop get to Murano, Burano and the airport.
We didn’t bother with the very expensive water taxis. Just use the waterbus"
Patrick Bastow
"We bought a ticket from the woman in the ticket office for the boat to the airport. We asked for the other routes(cause I saw several ways to go to the airport), but she just ignored and kept talking about the same ticket. She was really aggressive, and she said we are thinking she was a thief, cause we asked 2times. WTF😂
and I think she took a photo of us while me and my friends were discussing about the ticket. I was going to call the police, but we didn't had much time because of the flight. She ruined our memories in Venice. Thank u soooo much"

Understanding the Vaporetto System
Key routes from Fondamenta Nove include Line 12, which is the most popular for island hopping to Murano and Burano. Lines 4.1 and 4.2 provide access to San Michele, the city's cemetery island. For a more comprehensive experience, consider purchasing a multi-day pass (1, 2, or 3 days) as single tickets are expensive and quickly add up. Travelers often recommend sitting outside at the front or back of the Vaporetto for the best views and photo opportunities.
While the AVM Venezia app is useful for checking schedules, many users advise against using it for ticket purchases due to potential confusion and issues. It's generally safer to buy tickets from official ticket offices or machines. The Vaporetto system operates frequently, with departures typically every 10-15 minutes for popular routes, ensuring you don't have to wait too long.
Island Hopping: Murano & Burano

This vibrant palette makes Burano a photographer's paradise, especially during the golden hour. The journey to Burano takes about 45 minutes from Fondamenta Nove.
When planning your island excursions, remember that Vaporetto tickets can be costly if purchased individually. A multi-day pass is highly recommended to make these trips more economical and allow for spontaneous exploration. Both islands offer a delightful contrast to the bustling streets of Venice, providing a more relaxed and colorful experience.
Navigating Venice from the Airport
The Alilaguna route from the airport typically passes by the island of San Michele before arriving at Fondamenta Nove. The journey is slower than a water taxi but offers beautiful views of the Venetian lagoon and a glimpse into daily life on the water.
Once you arrive at Fondamenta Nove, you can easily connect to other Vaporetto lines to reach your accommodation or explore further into the city. This method of airport transfer is particularly appealing for those seeking a more immersive and less rushed introduction to Venice.
