While the high cost is a recurring point, most agree it's a worthwhile splurge for the unique experience and grand arrival it provides.
"Wonderful service! Out boat with Tommi was right in the place when we arrived, easy to find. The ride to Centro was wonderful, we enjoyed it."

"Very pleased with Venice Taxi Boat. Stefano and Tommaso in taxi no. 200 were delightful. We opted for a luxury boat, which is pricey but totally FUN and it fit the vibe of our special friends’ glam Biennale rip. I expect you’ll get the same wonderful service on a standard taxi from this company. (Think limo vs. regular car.). Especially nice that we had the same drivers/boat on our arrival as for our departure. I received texts the day prior and day of to confirm both trips and the location for pick-up. The taxi ride is 20 minutes from the center of Venice to the airport. Next trip I’ll skip the meet-and-greet at the airport arrivals and just walk myself to the taxi dock. (The car for the .5 mile trip from terminal to dock is a nice option if you have a lot of bags or have mobility concerns—the alternative walk is covered and features a series of moving walkways.)"

"Fantastic service, we used Stefano to and from the train station. Great way to travel the Venetian canals in style. Also booked the Murano/Burano tour he offers and we were treated like VIPs everywhere we went."

The Venice Water Taxi Experience: More Than Just a Ride
While the convenience of being dropped off directly at your hotel's water entrance is a major draw, the scenic aspect is equally compelling. Cruising down the Grand Canal, you get a unique perspective of Venice that's impossible to replicate from land. Some services even offer optional detours through smaller canals or to nearby islands like Murano and Burano, allowing for a personalized exploration of the lagoon.
However, it's crucial to be aware of the cost. Private water taxis are a significant investment, with prices from the airport often ranging from €150 to €170. This makes it a splurge for many, but for those seeking a grand entrance or a special way to celebrate an occasion, the experience is often deemed worth the expense.
Navigating Airport Transfers: Water Taxi vs. Other Options
In contrast, the Alilaguna water bus is a more budget-friendly public transport option from the airport. It follows set routes and stops, taking longer than a private water taxi but costing significantly less. Another common method is taking a land bus or taxi from the airport to Piazzale Roma, Venice's bus and car terminal, and then transferring to a vaporetto (public water bus) to reach your final destination. This is the most economical but also the most time-consuming and involves more changes.
The choice often comes down to budget and desired experience. If you're looking for a luxurious and efficient arrival, the private water taxi is unparalleled. If budget is a primary concern, the Alilaguna or the bus-to-vaporetto combination are more practical choices.
