What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the absolutely stunning, unparalleled panoramic views of Venice from the T Fondaco dei Tedeschi terrace. It's frequently described as a 'hidden gem' offering priceless perspectives, especially of the Rialto Bridge and Grand Canal. The free entry, coupled with the breathtaking scenery, makes it a highly recommended experience.
"One of the best FREE views of Venice you can find.
It's located on the 5th and last floor of a huge department store called DFS, which you can go in for free (the inside is also impressive).
HURRY UP!
in September 2025 the DFS declared they will close the branch for good. There might be another way to get to that rooftop after that but don't take the risk and do it while it's possible!
How to get there:
-------------------
First you need a ticket. To get it you have 2 options:
1. Try your luck by going there and ask. It's almost always full!
2. Book for free in advance from the DFS website (at least 1 day in advance and it's high season - even weeks).
On their website go to the SERVICES section and then scroll down to "Rooftop Terrace booking".
You can choose time slots of 15 min and see how many are left for each.
TIP:
-----
when you begin the booking you need to fill in names, emails and phone Numbers.
If you book for 2 or more people it might take you sometime to complete
The problem:
the tickets are not reserved while you book!
This means you might spend 5 min until you get to the "checkout", but by that time someone else might book 1 or more of the tickets left, so you'll miss your chance and have to find a other time slot and re-do the entire booking.
MY RECOMMENDATION:
copy-paste or fill your own details for all the guests and hope you'll finish the booking process faster!
Also, arrive 10 min before your time because you have only 15 min up there (then they ask everyone to leave). So if you're late you simply have less time to enjoy the spectacular views!
Enjoy 🙂"

"Amazing views from this rooftop. The rooftop is free but only for 15 mins, which keeps the line going. You need to book in advance, a month at least. Sunset is ideal but the most popular time to book. Nonetheless, the views are amazing."

"A unique panoramic view of Venice and the Grand Canal.
Access to the terrace is through a department store, so you can find something here too. Entrance to the terrace must be reserved in advance via the website. Entrances are in 15 minute intervals and the number of people is limited. So enjoy it!
However, if you cannot attend, cancel your reservation and you will surely make someone happy. 😁"

The History of Fondaco dei Tedeschi
In recent years, the building was meticulously restored and reopened as a luxury department store by DFS Group. The renovation aimed to preserve its historical essence while integrating modern retail and visitor amenities. The rooftop terrace is a relatively new addition, offering a public space to appreciate the city's beauty, a far cry from its bustling merchant past.
Today, the Fondaco dei Tedeschi stands as a testament to Venice's enduring legacy as a global trading center. It seamlessly blends its rich history with contemporary luxury, providing visitors with a unique glimpse into the city's past and present from its iconic vantage point.
Maximizing Your Terrace Visit
When you arrive, be prepared for a brief but impactful experience. Visits are typically limited to about 15-20 minutes to ensure everyone gets a chance to enjoy the view. Use this time wisely! Focus on the key landmarks: the Grand Canal, the Rialto Bridge, and the intricate Venetian rooftops. Don't be afraid to ask the friendly staff to take your photo; they often capture great action shots.
Consider visiting during weekday mornings for a more serene experience with softer light, perfect for photography. While sunset offers a magical glow, it's also the busiest time.
