Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently impressed by San Giorgio dei Greci, often calling it a 'hidden gem' and praising its free admission and stunning collection of Byzantine icons. The unique leaning bell tower is also a notable feature. While generally a peaceful experience, some may find the interior art overwhelming if not accustomed to Byzantine styles.

"This beautiful Greek Orthodox Church is in its original state, well taken care of and has never gone through restoration. There is a peace here and I can sit here to soak in the beauty of the gold art and atmosphere."

"Liturgy started at 10am but matins well before. Soaring chanting! A beautiful service. A true blessing to be there. The iconography was stunning!"

Peter Patitsas

"I visited this church during Easter, a deeply meaningful time for many of us in the Greek Orthodox faith. While the church itself is beautiful and carries great spiritual significance, I had an experience that left me feeling deeply disheartened.

When I politely asked about the time of the candle lighting (Anastasi), I was met with a dismissive and condescending response. Because I didn’t phrase something perfectly, I was questioned about whether I was even a real Christian and whether I had been baptized. The tone and manner of this exchange were deeply discouraging.

This interaction made me feel unwelcome in a space that should represent compassion and spiritual refuge. As someone who values faith and has always tried to stay connected to it, this experience has led me to step away from attending church altogether. It’s difficult to return to a place where I felt judged rather than embraced.

I share this feedback not to criticize individuals, but to highlight how important it is for spiritual spaces to remain welcoming and supportive. Kindness, humility, and understanding are essential in helping people feel connected—not only to their community, but to their faith."
