What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
La Barrique Wine Bar is highly praised for its authentic local atmosphere, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and excellent wine selection, making it a favorite among Venetians. While the wine and service receive consistent acclaim, some visitors find the tapas and cheese boards to be small for their price. It's a recommended spot for a relaxed evening drink and a taste of genuine Venice.
"We came here for a quick glass after dinner. Great service and wine."

"This was one of my favorite spots I visited in Venice. The staff were extremely friendly, they remembered me the next two times. One thing I loved (aside from the Ombré d’ Ambra, which I had to purchase a bottle of on my last night) was that it seemed entirely designed to serve the local population rather than being touristy like some of the other restaurants on Via Garibaldi. It was nice to see the other groups of patrons interact, everyone clearly knowing each other. The staff were incredibly friendly and personable in a laid-back way which was refreshing considering that much of Venice caters to the prevalence of tourism. I also loved that they were open late, as it makes for a perfect spot for a night cap. I couldn’t recommend them more."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider visiting earlier in the evening if you have children, though it's important to note that the focus is on wine and a relaxed adult ambiance. The small starters might be suitable for sharing, but the overall vibe leans towards a local hangout rather than a family-centric venue.
💰 Budget Travelers
Be mindful of the tapas and cheese boards, as some reviews indicate they might be small for the price. Focusing on enjoying a few glasses of wine and perhaps a single starter is a good strategy for keeping costs down. It's a great place to experience local flavor without breaking the bank.

The Authentic Venetian Experience
This commitment to authenticity extends to the service. Staff are described as incredibly friendly and personable, providing a laid-back yet attentive experience. This contrasts with the often rushed or impersonal service found in more tourist-heavy areas. The bar's location on Via Garibaldi further enhances its local appeal, offering a more residential feel away from the main tourist thoroughfares.
For travelers seeking an escape from the typical tourist circuit, La Barrique provides a perfect opportunity to experience Venice like a local. It’s an ideal spot for a quiet drink, a conversation, or simply observing the rhythm of daily life in this unique city. The emphasis on community and genuine hospitality makes it a memorable stop.
Navigating the Wine Selection and Bites
When it comes to food, La Barrique offers small starters and tapas. However, it's important to manage expectations regarding portion sizes and value. While the quality might be good, some reviews suggest that the tapas and cheese boards can be relatively small for the price, with one specific mention of a 27 euro plate being quite limited.
Therefore, it's best to view La Barrique primarily as a wine destination with accompanying small bites, rather than a full-service restaurant. It excels as a place to enjoy a glass or two of excellent wine, perhaps with a light snack, especially as a late-night option.
