What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find Torcello a peaceful and historically rich escape from Venice's crowds. The ancient churches and serene atmosphere are highlights, though some note potential restoration obscuring mosaics. It's a worthwhile journey for those seeking a quieter, more contemplative experience.
"I would recommend to the provider to remove Torcello from their islands to visit. I would not recommend visiting this island or church. The man who seemed to be running the church or grounds keeper of Santa Fosca, started shouting at my group for no reason, he literally came at us, attacked us for no reason. Clearly stated he does not like tourists. This is no reason to treat us like he did. Despite relying on tourism, some gratitude and manners is in order. I see in the Santa Fosca reviews the same person has upset other visitors. Why include this island on your tour if the locals don't respect your tourism. This local has now left me giving you a poor review which effects your business. I would recommend looking for a tour of Murano and Burano only. Do not waste your time with Torcello."

"I visited the two churches for the second time. Unfortunately I ran into a very sour museum supervisor. Although the internet is full of photos from the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, we were not allowed to take pictures. This restriction is stupid, because photos can be taken without flash in all the great museums of the world, and the enormous spaces in the church protect the mosaics. But I understood the rules of the game and accepted. The same caretaker, however, closed the church of St. Fosca kicked us out ten minutes earlier. He was in a hurry to get home and he was bored. For him this job is obvious boredom, but for us, who came from thousands of kilometers to enjoy these cultural things and paid entrance tickets, this was an abuse. It's a pity when there is no passion. But beyond that, the two churches and the related museum were worth all the effort. Thank you."

"Quite a place. Very old. Pretty area to wander around and get different views of the church as well as wander inside (this one is free entry) to see the beautiful architecture. It is the main reason these days to visit Torchello for the history! And there are some good restaurants on the island also. You can taxi over or do the tour boat fairy we used through (Serenissima Motoscafi S.r.l.) it was good enough and go there and back okay. You can buy entrance onsite at the time. If you really want to spend significant time on the island then you need private transport 😉"
