This bacaro is consistently praised as a top spot for authentic cicchetti and aperitifs, with visitors highlighting its vibrant local atmosphere and friendly staff. While some note it can be crowded and drinks might be slightly pricier, the overall consensus is that it offers exceptional value and a genuine Venetian experience.

"Best place ever for aperitif and cicchetti! Stop looking around and just go here! It’s not a touristic place, but one where locals go. We tried it an evening because we passed by and were early for dinner, well, we kept coming every evening for the whole holiday! The place has some very good vibes, the staff is amazingly nice and the food and drinks are simply great, with very fair prices! Make yourself a favour and try it out, you will be impressed!!! Top place for aperitif in central Venice! Try the select spritz and all the cicchetti tarts,
they are one better the the other! The place is always crowdfunding with people having drinks and fun, meaning is really worth it. Enjoy!"

Giovanni F.

"Delicious food and drinks. We had a selection of cicchetti and spritz, and went back for seconds. All were delicious. Big group outside, we sat with our kids inside looking out."

Trent Byfield

"We visited this bar late in the evening, and most of their cicchetti were already sold out. We managed to grab a few of the last portions (unfortunately, I forgot to take a photo). They were very tasty! We ordered a bottle of wine recommended by the friendly staff member, and it was an excellent choice. Highly recommended!"

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

Understanding Bacari and Cicchetti

Bacari are traditional Venetian bars, serving as social hubs where locals gather for a drink and small snacks called cicchetti. This concept is central to experiencing authentic Venetian life. Unlike formal restaurants, bacari are casual, often standing-room-only establishments, fostering a lively and communal atmosphere. TikTok+1

Cicchetti are the heart of the bacaro experience. These are small, bite-sized portions that can range from simple crostini to more elaborate preparations featuring fresh seafood, cured meats, cheeses, and vegetables. They are designed to be eaten quickly, often standing at the bar, and are perfect for sampling a variety of flavors. Popular cicchetti often include ingredients like cuttlefish, shrimp, and prosciutto. Reddit

Visiting a bacaro is more than just eating; it's about immersing yourself in the local culture. It's a chance to mingle with Venetians, enjoy affordable drinks like an 'ombra' (a small glass of wine) or a Spritz, and savor the authentic tastes of the region. Many visitors find that a 'bacaro tour,' hopping from one bacaro to another, is the best way to experience this unique Venetian tradition. TikTok+1

The Art of the Spritz and Ombra

No bacaro visit is complete without enjoying a classic Venetian aperitif. The most iconic is undoubtedly the Spritz, typically made with Aperol or Campari, prosecco, and a splash of soda water. It's a refreshing and vibrant drink that perfectly complements the savory cicchetti. Reddit

Another traditional choice is an 'ombra', which translates to 'shadow' but refers to a small glass of local wine. These wines are often regional and offer a more direct taste of Venetian viticulture. Asking the staff for their recommendation for an ombra can lead to delightful discoveries. TikTok

These drinks are not just beverages; they are an integral part of the social ritual. Enjoying a Spritz or an ombra while standing at the bar, perhaps with a few cicchetti, is the quintessential Venetian experience. It’s a moment to relax, observe, and soak in the local ambiance. TikTok+1

Navigating Venice's Culinary Scene

Venice offers a rich culinary landscape, and understanding the local dining customs can enhance your visit. While tourist-oriented restaurants abound, seeking out authentic experiences like bacari provides a more genuine taste of the city. TikTok

When exploring Venice's food scene, be open to trying local specialties. Seafood is paramount, given the city's lagoon setting. Dishes featuring sarde in saor (sweet and sour sardines), risotto al nero di seppia (squid ink risotto), and various grilled or fried fish are common. Reddit

Beyond bacari, consider trying trattorias for more substantial meals. Look for places that are busy with locals, as this is often a good indicator of quality and authenticity. Don't be afraid to ask for recommendations from hotel staff or friendly locals. TikTok
