Reviews Summary

Amphitheatre Bleso is a historically significant site in Tivoli, offering a glimpse into ancient Roman entertainment. While much of it is in ruins and direct access is limited, viewing from the adjacent Rocca Pia provides excellent historical context. The site truly comes alive during organized events like concerts and fairs, which are highly recommended for a more immersive experience.Reddit

"I'm re-adding this place to Maps—which the usual time-waster removes—and ITS FIRST REVIEW because it's an important site, still partially accessible. It's a shame for what it is, considering that it gives us a glimpse of what it once was and, above all, what it could still have been. What remains has escaped further raids and damage, likely due to its reuse as a hunting ground rather than arable land. An ancient amphitheater that could hold up to 2,000 people and was intended for gladiatorial and wild animal combat, in the spirit and also the design of what was the Ludus Magnus near the Colosseum (of whose amphitheater even less remains). The structures, which featured mixed masonry, complete with supports for the steps and barrel-vaulted rooms, were razed to the ground to prevent any possible shelter from enemies besieging the Rocca Pia, which had been built next to it in the mid-1400s. The rest was unknown until the late 1940s, when road works uncovered the remains of this oval-shaped area measuring approximately 50 by 90 meters. Although difficult to access and visit, these ruins are best viewed from above the fortress's walkways, providing a historical reminder of considerable importance. If you have the opportunity, stop to observe them, especially if the site is open for events such as screenings, concerts, and fairs, which the Municipality continues to organize in this precious area. Need some useful information? Then leave a like and check out other reviews of Tivoli, especially Rome, and beyond."
