What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Teatro Caio Melisso is widely praised as a beautiful, cozy, and historic venue with excellent acoustics, making for a delightful and intimate performance experience. Its central location is a major plus, though some visitors have noted potential issues with shared booth seating and fluctuating interior temperatures.
"Small theatre next to the Duomo. Came in July when the temperatures are high during the day and cool at night.
Inside, past the double doors, they run AC. It is not cold or cool but it is comfortable when many bodies are squeezed into a small space. After a few hours, it is no longer comfortable with the heat but it is tolerable.
We sat in the balcony seats, which wrap around the main stage. There are four chairs to the balcony seating plus one stool.
We were a group of three who had two additional people join our booth. They liked to spray large quantities of overpowering, dark flowery perfume on themselves within this 3x5 space.
I do not know if you can choose to have the booth alone with your party without any additional strange people who want to toilet themselves in public. If I were to return, I would attempt to decipher this before hand.
Since the venue is small, there are no bad seats.
Ceiling fresco of Apollo with the muses is gorgeous.
Bathrooms (two stalls for women) are on the left after entry through the double doors.
Food, lodging and church all within walking distance.
Great place to visit and a lovely venue minus the multiple groups per booth issue.
Update:
Went to a second show and sat in the main floor. This area is much cooler."

"In November of 2023, I traveled from Rome by train to Spoleto to this venue to see The Stick Men perform as part of a Spoleto Jazz series, although The Stick Men are more in the style of King Crimson than they are jazz. The sound in this theater is a amazing. I had an alcove booth all to myself on a rainy night. Had to walk in pea size hail to get there from my hotel as a thunderstorm was happening. The staff were kind and gracious, showing me to my seat. This is a beautiful building. I only wished I could have stayed longer in Spoleto."
