Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the beautiful and imposing exterior of Senigallia Cathedral, noting its impressive architecture. However, many express frustration with its frequent inaccessibility, often finding it closed even during expected hours. Those who manage to enter appreciate the historical artifacts like the Baptistery and sarcophagus.

"...walking around Senigallia!!...and precisely in Piazza Garibaldi!!...I noticed this beautiful building!!...a beautiful example of religious architecture!!...in fact it is the Cathedral of San Pietro Apostolo!!...or Duomo di Senigallia!!...whatever you want to call it!!...it is said that the building was built on other churches that already existed!!...unfortunately at the time of my passage it was closed!!...so I couldn't even make a small visit inside!!...inside that in they say!!...there is a sarcophagus!!...where once there were the relics of San Gaudenzio!!...which had been placed by the bishop!!...but then they were taken away...to another place!!...but still in the province of Ancona!!...you can also see some beautiful chapels!!...and also a historic pipe organ!!...what can I say!!...I'm sorry I wasn't able to enter!!...to admire the inside too!!...but the outside I must say is beautiful!!…it's the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle!!…in Senigallia!!…️️"

"It's always closed. Always. I've lived here for years and have never seen the door open. Rumor has it that since 2022 it's been hosting a non-stop orgy sponsored by a local winery, complete with a DJ set by Don Pino and a catering service of mixed fried fish.

I once tried knocking: a voice answered from inside, saying, "We're not ready for you, pilgrim." I don't know if it was a priest or a security guard from the Sanremo Music Festival.

The exterior is beautiful, clean, imposing... but every now and then you can hear a metallic noise, like they're setting up a stage, or maybe a carousel.

Silly detail: there's a slightly crooked tile near the entrance that makes me think it's the secret button to open the door. I tried to press it, but a pigeon attacked me."

ORGASMO FATALE

"Located in Piazza Giuseppe Garibaldi, the building was constructed at the end of the 18th century on the site of a pre-existing Jesuit church. Over time, it underwent various interventions and changes. The external façade was completed only towards the end of the 19th century thanks to funding from Pope Pius IX, born in Senigallia.
The Cathedral has undergone numerous restorations due to damage caused by the various earthquakes that have struck this highly seismic area.
The interior has three naves, divided by pillars and covered by a dome. The numerous works on display are noteworthy.
I particularly appreciated the richly crafted Baptistery, where Pius IX was baptized. A bronze statue, in the act of blessing, is also dedicated to him along the central nave. Inside the sacristy is preserved the sarcophagus of Saint Gaudenzio dating back to the 6th century AD: on it are depicted the symbols of the four evangelists and an inscription informs us that Sigismondo, bishop of Senigallia, placed the relics of Saint Gaudenzio there in 590, which were then stolen in 1520 and taken to Ostra."
