What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Chiesa di San Michele Arcangelo's facade beautiful and striking, a notable example of Sicilian Baroque. However, many express frustration over its inconsistent and often unavailable opening hours, preventing them from experiencing the interior. The church's scenic placement within Scicli is appreciated, though some feel external elements detract from its view.
"One of nice chirch in the city.but its not open always. Never visited inside."

"It isn't always open, but if it is, don't miss the opportunity to visit. It's not very large, but it's richly decorated and houses some valuable paintings. In the afternoon, a restaurant has tables set up in front of the façade, which, in my opinion, detracts from the view of the church."

"It seems impossible that such a beautiful church, among the oldest in Scicli even if completely rebuilt - like almost everything else - after the earthquake of 1693, could be closed... or at least be open at random and unscheduled times. But anyway... it seems impossible but it's like this... I - in a day and a half stay in Scicli in February - never found it open. I was only able to admire the exterior, which was nevertheless valuable, even if more for its scenic effect in the urban context than for its architectural nature in the strict sense. This church was built in the mid-eighteenth century and designed so that, paired with the church of Santa Teresa, they could form a suggestive scenic backdrop, the first advanced and the second set back. The theatrical effect is very interesting. Built in the typical Sicilian Baroque style, it has a slightly convex façade in the central part and flanked by Corinthian columns that direct the gaze upwards. Aligned with the beautiful portal there is a large window decorated with floral motifs and closed by a wrought iron gate. An elegant belfry closes the pyramid. I sincerely hope that it can be handled in a more appropriate manner."
