What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the unique 'Breath of the Earth' natural steam caves and the passionate local volunteers who bring the history of Saint Calogero to life. While the main spa is closed, the volunteer-led tours offer an unforgettable glimpse into ancient healing practices and a powerful natural spectacle. Some visitors express hope for the spa's eventual reopening.
"Hello everyone, I was there on August 17, 2023. Unfortunately, the spa has been closed for seven years. However, there are six local volunteers who will show you the cave where the humble monk San Calogero lived. He is the patron saint of Sciacca, but also of Agrigento.
It was the patron saint of Sciacca and a miracle worker who discovered these healing properties and promoted their therapeutic properties. Hence the construction of these spas, which have been closed for use for about seven years.
In addition, highly trained local volunteers will show you two caves.
One was used to treat animals and the second was used for human treatment. It's incredible how these natural vapors constantly escape at temperatures above 40°C,
known as "The Breath of the Earth"!
A unique and unforgettable experience. Highly recommended."

"From the bowels of the earth, water vapors at over 40 degrees Celsius rise and reach two caves that are essentially natural hammams. It's an incredible place that combines the power of nature and religion. You can admire the places inhabited by Saint Calogero. Enter the cave where he lived and healed pilgrims. Unfortunately, the thermal spa system in Sicily was destroyed by the Crocetta government, but if you want to experience the therapeutic power of steam, you absolutely must go. Right next to the caves stands the truly beautiful Basilica Minore. A highly recommended visit."

"After many years, finally, even if only for a brief visit, the Sciacca Città dei 5 sensi association, with the patronage of the Region of Sicily and the Municipality of Sciacca, has given the community the opportunity to relive the unique, and almost magical, experience of accessing the evocative baths of Monte Kronio. A place long renowned for its therapeutic and thermal properties, I sincerely hope can be reopened to the public and perform its primary function (a spa), which for centuries has served the community! With the hope that caring for people will prevail over other interests!"
