Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about San Severino di Centola, calling it a 'wonderful place' and a 'true immersion in history.' The medieval ruins and peaceful, uncrowded atmosphere are major draws, offering a unique glimpse into the past. Some note the strenuous climb and uneven paths, recommending sturdy footwear for a safe and enjoyable exploration.

"Wonderful place. A true immersion in history. It takes about an hour to visit. It's a bit high up, and in some places the path drops sheer into the Devil's Throat. I recommend comfortable, appropriate shoes, but I managed it in sandals.
A small parking lot is available at the entrance, opposite the main stairs."

Stefano Mungiguerra

"A place definitely worth visiting on a day when Cilento isn't offering its typical sunshine and you can't go to the beach. The climb is a bit strenuous, but absolutely doable. The landscape offers beautiful views, but the village's state of abandonment is palpable, which for some may be part of its charm. I recommend a visit, especially considering the tiny parking lot right at the bottom of the steps leading up to the village."

Rossella Trotta

"This is the beautiful, perched, ruined, and uninhabited medieval ghost town of "Sanseverino di Centola" in the province of Salerno, dating back to around 1000.
You pass it by taking the internal (not coastal) regional road "562 dir" towards Palinuro.
After passing under the old, disused Mingardo bridge and following the road towards the village by car, you'll come to a small, free parking lot (half a dozen spaces). From there, a free, uphill trail begins that leads to the village, which can be safely explored along its narrow streets, as indicated by specific signs.
From up there, you can also enjoy a beautiful view of the new town and the valley.
Fascinating but little-publicized.
Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area."
