"Mount Terminio, the second highest peak after Cervialto, is a limestone mountain that is part of the Picentini Mountains in the Campanian Apennines and is also part of the Picentini Mountains Natural Park. Besides being an enchanting peak, it is rich in nature trails and is the only one, compared to all the other mountains in Campania, with natural vegetation above 1,700 meters above sea level. The summit is easily accessible by taking the Avellino-Salerno highway and taking the Serino exit. Along the route from the slopes of Mount Terminio to the summit, you can enjoy numerous equipped picnic areas offering a variety of outdoor recreational activities. From the start, the trail enters a landscape of spectacularly green beech forests, whose magnificent and majestic trunks rise dozens of meters into the air, providing a unique and inimitable refreshment. Hiking shoes and poles are essential, and given not only the difficulty of the trail but also, and above all, the dense woodland vegetation, it's advisable to carry a reliable GPS device to help you stay on track, especially in places where CAI signage is virtually nonexistent and it's easy to lose your bearings and, consequently, the trail.
The immense and stunning expanses of beech forests, besides dominating, are immersed in a pristine landscape of karst sinkholes and vast plateaus.
From Campolaspierto, the road is marked by both the CAI and the Comunità Montana (Mountain Community). Crossing a large plateau, you immediately enter the forest and take a rough dirt road that climbs up to Acqua del Cerchio, an intermittent spring where animals often quench their thirst. The climb is not difficult, but caution is always required in the mountains. Continue to the Collelungo pass, and from there the path becomes narrower and more winding until you reach the summit, where a majestic cross stands.
A hike of great panoramic and natural beauty. From the summit of Mount Terminio, on clear days, you can see Vesuvius, Mount Mai, Pizzo San Michele, Mount Partenio, the Lattari Mountains, the Gulf of Salerno, and the sea. A marvelous natural environment that deserves greater protection and preservation, while also promoting respect and sustainable development for such an important environmental resource.
