Reviews Summary

Reviews for Time Elevator Rome are highly mixed, with many visitors questioning its value and operational status. While some families find it an engaging and educational experience for children, others criticize the dated technology, unimpressive 5D effects, and high prices. There are also significant concerns about the attraction potentially being permanently closed since 2020.

"This is just around the corner from the Trevi Fountain...all ages will love this. Theres stories from the beginning of time..to how rome was made...built...etc..it superimposed ruins we see today and to how it was in their time. Even my 5 yr old granddaughter loved it! You sit in certain rows of seatings and with 5D glasses you are rocked..swayed...thumped...in motion of the seas..as the images come right out to touch your face! Its incredible! A bit pricey but if its just the once and the children want something different from looking at buildings...tale them! Its for an hour!"

"First , the place was very hard to find we only found it after asking some people on the street .
The prices are pretty high and not worth it because of the quality of the movies.
they are very very old , the history of roma movie is 25 mins and cost 14 eur. it does tell the story of rome if you dont know it.
also the effects were very bad there was only a little bit of water in the end and thats it.
the chairs moved but wasnt synced with the movie so it was just pointless.
if you have kids go there. have fun!"

"Visited the Time Elevator when holidaying in Rome last year (Aug 2018). We picked this specifically as something fun to do for the kids (10 & 12) to give them a break from all the queuing & sightseeing of the major attractions. We found the staff to be super nice and helpful. The technology is a little bit dated but was lots of fun nonetheless. We experienced 3 different 3d animated stories and found the history of Rome and the evolution of earth the best. The experiences were really fun for the kids and they had a ball. It is very child friendly and certainly aimed at a younger audience. A great way to spend some time together as a family."

🚇 🗺️ Getting There

The Time Elevator Rome is located near the Trevi Fountain. However, multiple recent reviews suggest it may be permanently closed. If you're having trouble finding it, it's worth confirming its operating status first. If it's closed, the Trevi Fountain is a very close and highly recommended alternative.Reddit

The area around the Trevi Fountain, where Time Elevator Rome is located, is well-served by public transport. Several bus lines stop nearby, and it's within walking distance of the Barberini metro station (Line A). However, always check current transport schedules and routes.

From the Colosseum, you can take a bus or walk. A pleasant walk takes about 20-25 minutes, passing by other historical sites. Alternatively, several bus routes connect the Colosseum area to the vicinity of the Trevi Fountain. Again, confirm operating status before heading out.

🎫 🎫 Tickets & Entry

Ticket prices have been reported as around 14 EUR per person for a 25-minute show. Some visitors felt this was pricey for the quality of the experience. It's advisable to check the official website or confirm prices on arrival, if the attraction is indeed open.Reddit

Historically, online booking was available. However, given the uncertainty about its operational status, it's best to verify if online ticket purchases are still an option. If the attraction is open, purchasing on arrival might be preferable to avoid issues if plans change.Reddit

Previously, Time Elevator Rome operated with afternoon shows. However, there are strong indications that the attraction has been closed since February 2020. It is crucial to verify current operating hours directly with the venue or through recent visitor feedback before making any travel plans.Reddit

Reviews suggest it's most enjoyable for families with younger children (around 5-12 years old). While it aims to educate, the 5D effects and dated technology might not appeal as much to older children or adults seeking a more sophisticated experience.Reddit

🎫 ✨ Onsite Experience

The Time Elevator Rome offers a 5D cinematic journey through Roman history. Visitors sit in motion-enabled seats and wear 3D glasses, experiencing historical events with sensory effects like movement and simulated sensations. It aims to be an engaging and educational overview of Rome's past.Reddit

The main historical documentary is approximately 25 minutes long. Some visitors have experienced up to three different shows, including the 'Evolution of Earth' and 'History of Rome' segments. The total duration for a visit, including waiting time, is usually around an hour.Reddit

Feedback on the 5D effects is mixed. Some find them fun and immersive, especially for children, with elements like rocking seats and occasional water sprays. However, others describe the effects as dated, poorly synced with the movie, and potentially motion-sickness inducing, deeming them 'pointless'.Reddit

The shows typically cover Rome's history from its mythical beginnings, through its construction and development, up to the present day. It aims to superimpose the historical context onto the ruins and landmarks visible in modern Rome, offering a visual timeline of the city's evolution.Reddit

Opinions are divided. For families with young children looking for a unique, educational break from traditional sightseeing, it can be considered worthwhile. However, many visitors feel the experience is overpriced for the quality of the technology and content, suggesting alternatives like YouTube videos for historical information.Reddit

Photography and videography are typically not allowed inside the screening rooms during the shows to maintain the immersive experience and protect copyrights. You might be able to take photos of the exterior or the pink elevator.TikTok

Since Time Elevator Rome is near the Trevi Fountain, the fountain itself offers spectacular photo opportunities. The surrounding streets also provide charming Roman backdrops. The unique pink elevator might also be a fun photo op if accessible.TikTokInstagram

For Different Travelers

Tailored advice for your travel style

👨‍👩‍👧 Families with Kids

Time Elevator Rome is often marketed as a family-friendly attraction, particularly for children aged roughly 5 to 12. The 5D effects, including moving seats and sensory elements, can be exciting and engaging for younger visitors, offering a fun break from traditional sightseeing. It provides a dynamic way to introduce kids to the history of Rome in a digestible format.Reddit

However, parents should be aware that the technology is considered dated by some, and the 5D effects might not always be perfectly synchronized, potentially leading to motion sickness in sensitive children. If your kids enjoy interactive experiences and learning through visual storytelling, it could be a hit. If they are easily bored by older technology or prone to motion sickness, you might want to consider other activities. Always confirm if the attraction is open before you go, as recent reports suggest it may be closed.Reddit

Budget Travelers

For budget-conscious travelers, Time Elevator Rome might be a point of consideration. While not exorbitantly expensive, the reported price of around 14 EUR per person for a 25-minute show has been deemed 'pricey' by some visitors, especially given the perceived quality of the effects and the availability of free historical information online.Reddit

If you're on a tight budget, you might find more value in exploring Rome's many free attractions, such as the Pantheon (exterior), Piazza Navona, or simply wandering through the historic streets. The Trevi Fountain, located nearby, is a spectacular and free alternative. If you do decide to visit Time Elevator Rome, consider it an optional splurge for a unique experience, rather than a must-do on a strict budget.

In-depth insights and expert knowledge

The 5D Experience: What to Expect

The Time Elevator Rome's main draw is its 5D cinematic experience, designed to transport visitors through history. You'll be seated in chairs that move, tilt, and vibrate, synchronized with the on-screen action. This aims to simulate the feeling of being present in historical events, whether it's the rumble of ancient chariots or the sway of a ship on the sea.Reddit

However, reviews are polarized. While some find the effects fun and engaging, particularly for children, others describe them as dated and poorly executed. Some visitors reported that the chair movements weren't always in sync with the movie, leading to a disjointed experience and even motion sickness. The '5D' often includes elements like wind, water spray, and scent, but the effectiveness and impact of these vary greatly according to visitor feedback.Reddit

If you decide to go, it's recommended to manage your expectations. Think of it as a quirky, interactive history lesson rather than a state-of-the-art theme park attraction. For younger audiences, the novelty and sensory stimulation can be a hit, offering a different pace from traditional museum visits.Reddit

Navigating the Location and Potential Closure

Time Elevator Rome is situated in a prime tourist area, conveniently close to the iconic Trevi Fountain. This central location makes it theoretically easy to access via public transport, with numerous bus routes serving the vicinity and the Barberini metro station a walkable distance away. The area itself is bustling with activity, offering plenty of other attractions and dining options nearby.TikTok

However, a significant concern raised in recent reviews is the potential permanent closure of the attraction. Several visitors have reported finding it closed, with no prior notification on their website or through tour operators. This has led to considerable disappointment for those who had planned their visit. It's crucial to verify its operational status before making any travel arrangements or heading to the location.Reddit

If Time Elevator Rome is indeed closed, the Trevi Fountain is an excellent and highly recommended alternative. It's just a stone's throw away and offers a world-renowned, spectacular experience that is guaranteed to be open and awe-inspiring. Always do a quick online search or call ahead to confirm opening times and status for any attraction in Rome.
