What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Bar San Calisto is a beloved, authentic local spot in Trastevere, praised for its incredibly affordable drinks, delicious gelato, and lively atmosphere. While some find the pre-made cocktails and plastic cups less than ideal, most appreciate the genuine Roman experience and budget-friendly prices.
"Casual, crowdy and artsy. San Calisto seems to be a popular bar for those who want to have a beer with friends after work or to grab a cup of coffee in the morning, on the way to office. Anyway, it's not the place to order fancy cocktails.
Came in San Calisto Bar, following the positive review I read in a Dutch travel magazine (Holland Herald) and ordered a Negroni with quite high expectations. Received a plastic cup with an ice cube and an orange wedge floating in a reddish liquid poured from o random bottle. Bartender confirmed that many of their customers use to order Negroni, so they prepare it in advance. Negroni ready made! In Italy!! Served in a plastic cup!!! As I was looking for a genuine Negroni experience, I moved to the next bar in the aria, where the bartender prepared a classic Negroni for me, in a proper cocktail glass. Perfectly balanced. Also received some chips on the house, which was not the case at San Calisto."

"If you want to see the locals and get away from tourists a bit, I suggest coming here before noon. The cappuccino was only €1.20 and it was delicious! I also met an old Italian man who sits under the church, playing music through the speaker on his bike and doing his hobby. I’d love to see him again—he even played some Turkish music after learning that I’m Turkish. Such a lovely man."
