🧠 Ho avuto l'occasio...

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Giardino Rasponi as a delightful, hidden gem in Ravenna, offering a peaceful escape with its unique collection of herbs and historical charm. Many appreciate the free entry and the cozy on-site bistro, making it a perfect spot for relaxation and quiet contemplation. Some note that the opening hours can be limited, primarily to weekdays. Reddit

"Nestled in the heart of Ravenna, the Giardino Rasponi, also known as the Garden of Forgotten Herbs, offers a serene escape from the city’s hustle and bustle. Located at the intersection of Via Rasponi and Via Guerrini, this charming green space is a perfect spot to relax, unwind, or delve into a good book.

Historically, this garden was part of the 15th-century Palazzo Rasponi Murat, the oldest residence of the prominent Rasponi family. In the late 18th century, renowned architect Camillo Morigia, famed for designing Dante’s tomb, enhanced the garden’s beauty. Today, it retains its 19th-century layout, featuring a central wrought-iron fountain and meticulously arranged flowerbeds. The garden is home to a variety of Mediterranean herbs and lesser-known species, many of which are rooted in ancient apothecaries’ recipes.

The surrounding walls muffle city noises, creating a magical atmosphere enriched by the colors and scents of the herbs. Visitors are treated to unique views of Ravenna’s architecture, including glimpses of the Cathedral’s dome and its distinctive round bell tower.

Opening Hours:
• Monday to Friday: 10:30 AM – 2:30 PM and 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM
• Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Admission is free, and the garden is fully accessible to individuals with physical disabilities. Whether you’re seeking a peaceful retreat or a picturesque setting to read, the Giardino Rasponi o delle Erbe Dimenticate is well worth a short visit. "

"Herbs, flowers and fruits grow in this little and beautiful garden, hidden in the center of Ravenna, used for apothecaries - it stands just beside the Neonian Baptistery and the Duomo. It has a small open air bistro.

In the past, it was the garden of the most ancient residence of the Rasponi family, the so-called Palazzo Rasponi Murat, dating back to the 15th century. Around 1780, the whole building underwent renovation works, some of which were carried out in the garden by architect Camillo Morigia, the one who designed Dante Alighieri’s tomb.

The 19th century layout, which still has a small wrought-iron fountain at its centre, has been preserved, and the beds of Mediterranean herbs and other lesser-known species, handed down in the apothecaries’ recipe books, have been philologically revived.

Just at his side we can view the dome of the Cathedral and its round bell tower."

"Tiny gem in the city. I wanted to stay here forever. The place is run and maintained by the technical school near the garden. They serve juice, coffee, and food for minimal prices."
