What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Convent of San Domenico for its evocative scenery and peaceful atmosphere, offering stunning panoramic views of the coast. While the hike to reach it can be challenging, the serene sanctuary and its connection to the Path of the Gods are considered well worth the effort. Some visitors noted limited access to the convent buildings themselves.
"Evocative scenic place. There was no one there except a fig tree in front of the church bearing witness to passers-by who climbed up from Praiano to Path of the Gods above or descended from there to Praiano below. You could see Positano and even Capri in the distance on a clear day.
The chapel part of it was open, but I did not see any entrance to the convent attached behind it. Maybe it was closed on the day I visited.
It wasn't a walk in the park to get there. From Path of the Gods, it was quite the steep and wild descent down an uneven and slightly overgrown rocky switchback narrow dirt trail with some wide steps—a tinge above moderately challenging 20 mins brisk hike.
On my scramble down, I bumped into two—about a metre long—black snakes at separate moments one almost right after the other, right on the narrow trail at the shaded bushy last section before the convent; one scurried right out of my way into the bushes, the other slithered right across the narrow trail right in front of me chasing after some small prey into the grass. Those two moments were slightly unnerving but added thrill to the adventure.
The arrival at the peaceful secluded spot with a scenic belvedere commanding a clear diagonal view of Positano in the distance was definitely worth the climb down.
From there, you could either decide to follow the stairs down to Praiano or return to the Path of the Gods above to continue the hike to Nocelle, Montepertuso or Positano, or return back to Bomerano."
