What Travellers Say

Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Val Gardena Railway Trail for its historical significance, particularly the tunnel with its informative displays, and the beautiful alpine scenery. However, many note that signage can be poor, leading to confusion, and the return journey to Ortisei is more challenging than expected due to steep uphill sections.

"The path is closed, no signs to say why or when it reopens."

Kathryn Barrow

"The Trenino trail between Santa Cristina and Ortisei isn't long, about 5 km, but the time it takes depends greatly on your legs and how much you stop to admire the views. We took almost double the estimated time. The outward journey is mostly downhill, but keep in mind that the return journey is uphill, with a couple of steep sections, especially before the tunnel. It's a great hike, but not as easy as we'd anticipated. You can easily take the bus back if you want to simplify or shorten the hike."

Nicola Martino

"The Trenino trail is a trail suitable for everyone, running from Santa Cristina to Ortisei.

It partially follows the old railway line and provides a thorough explanation of its history along the way.

The railway line, built using Russian prisoners of war, was built to transport weapons and troops to the front.

In the post-war period, it was used for commercial transport and tourism but was later dismantled due to excessive costs.

The route is fairly easy to navigate, even with a stroller, although some sections require crossing the road.

The tunnel that runs through Santa Cristina for a few hundred meters is very beautiful.

Inside, a series of information panels explain the history of the train and the railway.

Worth seeing!"
