What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Pistoia is praised for its authentic Tuscan charm and affordability, offering a peaceful escape from larger tourist crowds. Visitors appreciate its historic beauty and convenient train connections for exploring the region. Some travelers have encountered issues with customer service at the train station, but the overall experience is highly positive.
"Updated: 09.06.2025
Due to track work there is bus service between Pistoia and Montecatini until 7.09.2025. The bus service stop is in the parking lot to the left of the main train station when you exit the station from the train tracks.
I arrived at the bus stop and there were a few buses heading to Montecatini. There was a clerk finishing a transaction with a client on a mobile device. He asked his new female colleague to verify my ticket. It turns out that I have to get a new one, but instead of allowing me to buy it from him, he sends away the last bus at 13:55. He then tells me that I have to go inside the station to get a ticket. The next bus is 14:25.
Lack of customer service in this case is disgusting - he caused me to lose 30 minutes rather than allowing me to buy the ticket from him as was the case of the man immediately before me (and he gave him coins as change from the purchase). He knew that I wanted to take the bus (otherwise there would be no reason for me to be there under the blazing heat) and he purposely sent the last bus on his way.
Alas. Siamo in Italia.
14:26 update
I got on the bus service, and the same clerk was here again, and he OFFERED the passenger behind me to “make him a ticket” so that he can get on.
Discriminatory behavior towards non-Italians. Sadly there are people who exercise power where they can because in certain other matters of life they do not have control.
Bus stop conveniently located in front of the station. It’s possible to buy the tickets for the local bus and the train at the newsstand in the middle of the station (not the one on the left side)."

"It's a small building with most basic services - a bar, tabaccheria and couple of vending machines. Nothing much to do there if you are waiting for train or bus but trains were running on time thankfully."
