"The church's style is evident; it's quite recent, well-maintained both inside and out, and is located in the center of Pineto. It never goes unnoticed (unless you're an atheist or hate monuments). The interior is essentially made up of paintings, statues, and paintings. There are no decorated ceilings or large "church-style" windows, but it is full of statues (as I attached to the review; please forgive the poor quality of the photos). It's very small inside, and I don't know if it's enough to accommodate all the Christians in Pineto. However, as small as it is, it's welcoming; when you enter, you feel disconnected from the outside world. Overall, it's a beautiful church; I believe it's a symbol of the city of Pineto."

"Who was Saint Agnes?

Although the cult of Saint Agnes, a very young virgin and martyr, has been very popular among Christians—especially in Rome—since the years following her death, her personal history is based on several uncertain and contradictory sources.

Let's first look at the certain points, which are supported by various authors:

the origin of the name: Agnes derives from the Greek (agnox) and means sacred, pure, chaste;
her social status: it was a name used by families of freedmen, a status which Agnes's parents must have enjoyed;
her martyrdom, stemming from her tenacious will to bear witness to her Christian faith;
her death, which occurred at the age of 12 or 13;
the day of her martyrdom: January 21;
her burial place: on the Via Nomentana, on the site of the current basilica dedicated to her.
We can also assume that her martyrdom occurred during the last of the persecutions to which Roman Christians were subjected: that carried out by Diocletian between 303 and 313 AD.

Aside from these few but already significant details, several traditions have been handed down to us regarding the saint's story.

Here are the main sources on the story of Saint Agnes:

Pope Damasus (366-384), who recounts the story in a poem carved on a large marble slab, currently walled in the east part of the staircase leading to the Honorius Basilica, near the stained glass entrance;

St. Ambrose (337-397), who extols Saint Agnes in De virginibus (c. 377) and in the hymn Agnes beatae virginis;
Prudentius (340-405), a great Spanish Christian poet, who sings of the Saint in hymn XIV of his Peristephanon, published in 405;
The Latin Passio (Passio Sanctae Agnetis), a 5th-century hagiographic text based on popular tradition, which was likely proclaimed on the anniversary of Agnes's birth;
The Greek Passio, composed in the 5th century and immediately translated into Syriac, which recounts the Saint's martyrdom."
