Reviews Summary
Casa del Suono is praised for its innovative concept and free entry, offering a unique journey through the history of sound with fascinating exhibits like the 'sounding chandelier' and 'white room.' However, some visitors report issues with exhibit functionality and staff helpfulness, leading to a less-than-ideal experience at times.
"One of the most interesting places to visit if you have ears. The entry is Free and you don't have to book, just check the opening hours. Display is very detailed from the oldest sound recording and radio transmitting hardware to some classic instruments on display. But the most amazing thing has to be the two sensory displays, one is in a shape of large speaker hanging over a small tent with entry draped in red cloths and the other one is a room packed with speakers, you might have to ask to enter it if there's little to no visitors."

"Bel idea, un museo che racconta la storia del suono registrato, purtroppo gestito mallissimo dal assistenti antipatici, tutti i schermi ed accompanimenti sonori spenti senza speranza di essere accesi per i visitatori. Casa di suono senza suono.
This was a great idea for a museum, beautiful journey through the history of sound. Clearly paid for by the EU, sophisticated sound and visual systems should accompany the tour but everything is switched off and a very unpleasant assistant refuses to switch anything for visitors. Museum of sound without sound, disappointing but a typical example of Italians wasting EU money for good cultural initiatives."

"Nice place, it's a short visit that worth the effort. If you are lucky you could experience the white room and everything."

The History and Concept of Casa del Suono
The core concept revolves around tracing the journey from the earliest sound recording devices, like phonographs and vintage radios, to more modern and even digital sound technologies. Visitors can expect to see a fascinating array of historical instruments and equipment that have shaped how we experience sound. The museum aims to be an engaging space, moving beyond static displays to offer immersive experiences that connect visitors with the science and art of acoustics.
Experiencing the Sound Exhibits
Beyond these standout installations, the museum offers a journey through various aspects of sound. Some exhibits focus on the principles of acoustics, demonstrating how different materials and shapes affect sound. Educational programs, like those designed for elementary school children, further illustrate the museum's commitment to making sound accessible and fun for all ages, exploring everything from basic rhythms to complex audio technologies.
Visitor Feedback and Practicalities
However, some visitors have noted issues with the management and maintenance of the exhibits. Reports of screens and sound accompaniments being turned off, and staff being unhelpful in activating them, have led to disappointment, with some describing it as a 'museum of sound without sound.' This inconsistency can detract from the intended immersive experience. It's also advisable to double-check opening hours, as they can sometimes be outdated or subject to change without notice.
