Reviews Summary
Visitors praise Santa Maria della Rocca for its stunning architecture, well-preserved 14th-century frescoes, and the breathtaking panoramic views of the Marche region. The church's historical depth, including its castle origins and crypt, adds to its allure. Some visitors noted issues with inconsistent opening hours or closures for renovations, and the impact of seismic events on the structure.
"Beautiful church! Built on top of a Longobard's castle whose Lord had only two male sons. They both decided to become Dominican monks therefore the place was given to the rule of the abbey of Farfa (a near by town) and a new church was built in the 14th century. After a rebellion of the local people against the Dominican rule the land went under the control of a close by archibishop. The church fell into abandonment for some years, the tower bell fell onto then roof due to seismic events against which the region is still struggling. Nevertheless, some beautiful paintings (once they fully cover all walls and ceilings) are still preserved and the building has some ancient magic aurea."
