"I like this church"
Nicola C.
"The Church of San Giovanni Battista dei Fiorentini is located next to the gardens on Via Ruoppolo. The current building, modern and linear, stands on the site of a historic 15th-century church demolished in the 1950s to make way for new housing. Originally built under the rule of Viceroy Pedro de Toledo, the church was financed by Florentine merchants, who enriched it with Tuscan works of art. In the 20th century, it was expropriated and deemed expendable to facilitate urban development, and so it was demolished, saving only a few works. The new church was inaugurated in 1959, preserving some works from its past."
