What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors are often struck by the impressive neo-Gothic exterior of Naples Cathedral Duomo, though some find the interior less ornate than expected compared to other European cathedrals. The Chapel of Saint Januarius and its relic are a major draw, offering a unique cultural and spiritual experience. While the climb can be strenuous, the historical and artistic treasures within the complex are widely appreciated.
"The biggest cathedral in Naples, with many beatiful altars. Probably also the most crowded one. Entrance is free and it's worth to spend some time enjoying the views especially on a hot summer day. Interestingly the facade was covered in photos when we were there, apparently a massive public artwork. We weren't sure if it was the right place for such thing, especially because unless you go and read about it's not really relatable and connected to the place."
Maciej Polakowski
"It is quite a magnificent cathedral. Entry is free. It might be one of the largest cathedrals I’ve ever seen. However, I couldn’t understand the purpose of the photos displayed on the exterior wall. There must be a reason for mounting or printing them there, but they have ruined the appearance of the cathedral."
Evren Başkan
"Built in the 13th and 14th centuries, this is the largest cathedral in Naples and has withstood centuries of events—from earthquakes to bombings.
The interior includes many side chapels and is impressive in both scale and detail. Entrance is free, and unlike many other churches, there's no requirement to cover your legs or arms. You can also get an audio guide for a small fee, which adds context to your visit. Definitely worth seeing while in the city.
It doesn't typically have pictures on its exterior, but it recently hosted a temporary photographic installation that transformed the cathedral’s façade into a collective portrait of 606 Neapolitans."
