Gran Caffè Gambrinus is the oldest cafe in Napoli and perhaps the most beautiful? So many tasty treats here and it’s also where ‘Caffè Sospeso’ was born. Caffè Sospeso is when you pay for two coffees but only enjoy one, leaving the second for someone who can't afford to buy one! Join me in Naples at the legendary Caffè Gambrinus, where I try the same violet-flavored gelato 🍨 once loved by Empress Elisabeth of Austria: Princess Sissi 👑 Gambrinus has been serving royalty, writers, and artists since 1860, and today this historic café continues to keep traditions alive. Every scoop is a taste of history. Would you try Princess Sissi’s favorite gelato? 🫶 #gelatoitaliano #Napl...

Reviews Summary

Gran Caffè Gambrinus is celebrated for its breathtaking historical interior and delicious Neapolitan pastries, particularly the sfogliatella. While many praise the quality of coffee and the unique atmosphere, some visitors note that service can be inconsistent and prices are high, especially for table seating. Standing at the bar is recommended for a more authentic and affordable experience. Reddit

"Does not cost money! Lack of service and too expensive! Only pretends to be a top quality but it is not a tipical italian place, it is for tourists that are not familiar with tipical italian places.
Starting from the entrance... I was waiting for 5 min, nobody came to me as usually any italian waiter would do finding a table for me. I came to one table, looked at menu. No reaction. I waited a bit more looked around, took some pictures. The interieer is just printed paintings in frames, not real paintings...
The toilet had no locker, a man was staying outside and controlling that nobody opened the door while you were inside. There was a plate with tips for him.
Something ridiculous!
At the entrance a bar where the prices are lower but you need to eat and drink staying on your foot. Better to find any table outside on the squears enjoying the same bakery eith lower prices and nice service and going to the toilet alone locking the door."

Alesita Garcia

"Centrally located, prime spot for people watching and beautiful building.

This is by far one of the best espresso we had during our trip in Italy. So good that we went back 3 times in total during our visit in Naples.

The pastries were great too.. as for the service as expected during high season. Fatigue, not very friendly.. probably sick of tourists like us and under staff given they didn't open a section of the restaurant and would rather have customers wait in the queue.

Worth a visit.. just don't expect much from the service. Pastries and espresso.. definitely Yes!

Absolutely love their menu, photos and descriptions. Perfect!!"

Jackie S

"They have on of the best pastries in Italy. But the service could be better and the place could be taken care better.

We went there twice, one time for breakfast and other for an afternoon coffee. On both occasions the service was pretty average.

The coffee nothing special, but the pastries. Perfection!

The best of all was the sfogliatella, nice layers of perfect crust with a filling that wasn't too sweet.

I recommend for a good pastry treat in Naples."
