"The church of San Carlo all'Arena is one of the monumental churches of Naples. The name of the religious building derives from the old sandy road on which the church stood, where the wastewater from the hills deposited its debris. The current appearance of the temple is the one conferred on it by the architect Francesco De Cesare who restored it in 1837 and with minor renovations after a fire that damaged it in 1923. The church has an elliptical plan with seven altars."
