What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Rataña is widely celebrated as a culinary highlight in Milan, with many calling it the best food they had in Italy. Diners consistently praise the exceptional quality of ingredients, the masterful preparation of dishes like the legendary risotto, and the creative, seasonal menu. The charming garden setting and attentive service add to the overall delightful experience, though it comes with a fine-dining price tag and requires advance booking.
"Fantastico! Best food we had in Italy. Gets a little noisy around lunch but the service was good and the park this restaurant is pretty nice, especially with a view of the Bosco Verticale.
We went in blind and randomly ordered the tortellini, seared fish and roast beef, and all items were great - especially the tortellini which was covered in a deliciously rich cheese sauce. Homemade bread sticks were also great and we loved the caramel sorbet dessert. No denying that it's pricey but it was worth every euro. Reservations absolutely needed."

"Superb! Our lunch at Ratana was the highlight of a week-long Milan dining adventure. Luckily, when walking past the restaurant before entering, we were able to meet owner and chef Cesare Battisti. He took the time to introduce himself while filming a food preparation video. Every dish in our meal was incredible, with the
risotto the star of the afternoon. Since I am a connoisseur of risotto Milanese from living in the area for several years, we started with that, and it was absolutely superb. If anyone is listening, I wish I could know the recipe for the Ratana gremolata! You could sense there was great skill in the preparation, with noticeable quality in the rice grains (I’d presume carnaroli) and the amount of saffron pistils. A perfect risotto is much appreciated, since many lesser quality restaurants that cater to tourists short cut their risotto by using basic short grain rice and powdered saffron. Next - our pasta course had us tussling over each other’s plates deciding whether the “Tortellini con fonduta di lodigiano e aceto balsamico stravecchio” or “Gnocchi di patate piastrati e croccanti con ragù di vitello e lodigiano tipico” was better. The two were equally delicious, grateful we could try both. My compliments could easily continue through the entire meal. My only regret is that I did not order the “Cotechino brianzolo, purè di lenticchie e salsa verde,” which is a seasonal dish available for the Christmas holidays. Looking forward to our next visit.
Observations: Making advance reservations is a must. Try often and don’t give up. Openings will surface. Have your server recommend a wine based on your meal. The wine list is too extensive, and they know the pairing. I understand that the cotoletta alla milanese is a silent specialty of the house that is not featured on the menu; however, it may be ordered with 2 days’ notice. A couple at a nearby table were served the cotolleto, and it looked as good as you could possibly find in Milan. Save room for dessert, and keep an eye out for what looks good as soon as you sit down at your table. Have an open dialogue with the staff on what desserts are being served to other guests."

"Lovely service and atmosphere. Need to book ahead but well worth it. We did the 5 dish tasting menu and wine pairing. The saffron risotto and Brianzolo cotechino, lentil pate and Salva Cremasco cheese was a highlight for us. Delicious!"
