"Located next to the Sforza Castle, they have a very huge collection of products by the Castellioni brothers preserved to give light to their contribution towards the field of design. I highly recommend you to visit if you're related to any field of design or is just fun to see. The place is small in size but a rich collection."

"The information given here on google maps and in various travel guides is insufficient and the foundation does not bother updating it.
Visiting the Achille Castiglione Foundation was one of the main goals of my visit to Milan. Upon arrival at the location, I get to hear that a visit is only possible through a pre-booked reservation for a tour. Of course, tours for the day are booked out.
The personnel at the foundation has been barely willing to answer a question, overall very unfriendly and unaccomodating. Great disappointment!"

The Genius of Achille Castiglioni
His studio, now the Fondazione Achille Castiglioni, is a testament to this creative process. It's not just a showroom but a living archive, packed with prototypes, sketches, models, and personal items that reveal the journey from idea to iconic product. Visitors get an intimate look at how Castiglioni experimented, often using found objects or reinterpreting existing forms to create something entirely new.
Key to Castiglioni's success was his ability to imbue his designs with a sense of joy and curiosity. He believed that design should be accessible and enhance daily life, often with a touch of humor. This approach is evident in pieces like the Arco lamp, which famously uses a marble base and a long, curved stem to provide overhead lighting without needing a ceiling fixture, or the Mezzadro stool, which cleverly repurposes a tractor seat.
Navigating the Fondazione Experience
Booking a guided tour is non-negotiable. This ensures you get the full context and insights from knowledgeable guides, often including family members who share personal anecdotes. The tours are designed to be engaging and informative, highlighting Castiglioni's innovative spirit and his collaborations with renowned brands like Flos.
Be prepared for an intimate and inspiring visit. The studio is densely packed with objects, sketches, and references, offering a rich visual narrative. It’s a place that sparks creativity and offers a profound appreciation for the mind of one of design's greatest masters.
