What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Travelers praise the Stazione Marittima Cruise Terminal for its exceptional convenience, allowing immediate access to Messina's city center. The proximity to attractions like the Cathedral and numerous dining options is a major plus. However, some visitors have reported negative experiences with security staff, citing instances of perceived discrimination.
"A very simple but very practical port! You get off the ship and just walk into the city! No need for shuttles or tenders. There are several cabs and potential touring companies waiting right there. If you want to take the tour train ride, it's right across the street. We didn't take it but I heard them charging 15 euros for it. The City Sights hop on hop off bus is also nearby, though we didn't try it. It's easy to walk through town here. Many restaurants and churches to visit by foot, including the main basilica. They don't check for ID or passport when you're returning to the cruise ship, as long as they can verify your photo with your key card in the cruise system."

"Easy walk from the Vessel into the City, Messina Cathedral and numerous restaurants, cafes and pasticceria."

"Love, love, love Sicily. Our first stop on our 10 day Sun Princess Cruise. After passing the active volcano Stromboli, we knew we were getting close. I'm still processing everything we experienced and all the places we visited so please forgive me if I forget something or my descriptions are not vivid. I will come back and add when it comes to memory. ☺️"

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
Consider the tour train or the hop-on-hop-off bus for a more relaxed way to see the sights without tiring little legs. These options provide a comfortable way to cover more ground and keep children entertained. While excursions to Mt. Etna might be too strenuous for very young children, shorter city tours or beach visits could be more suitable alternatives.
🚶♀️ Budget Travelers
Opt for local pasticcerias and trattorias for affordable and delicious meals, rather than tourist-trap restaurants. Enjoying a simple espresso and a pastry for breakfast or a quick arancino for lunch can be very budget-friendly. While organized tours can be costly, exploring independently allows you to set your own pace and spending.
couples
Consider a leisurely afternoon enjoying gelato by the waterfront or finding a restaurant with a view for a memorable dinner. The city's relaxed atmosphere provides a perfect setting for connection and shared exploration.

For panoramic shots, seek out elevated viewpoints that offer a sweeping vista of Messina, the harbor, and the surrounding coastline. Remember to be respectful when photographing people, and always ask for permission before taking close-up portraits.
