What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Caudano Caves are praised for their authentic, 'cave-like' atmosphere and the engaging, knowledgeable guides who enhance the experience. Visitors appreciate the dense formations and the rustic charm. However, a significant drawback is the reported unreliability of opening hours and difficulty in confirming them, leading to disappointment for many.
"Drove till here for few hours, to find it completely closed.
I called all 3 numbers, including the local municipal office. Pity...
On the website was written open with a visit at 3PM"

"Beautiful cave to visit a few kilometers from Frabosa Sottana. Rustic. Less spectacular than Bossa, but more of a cave. Stalactites and stalagmites are very close together, easily observable, and intriguing, and some very beautiful rooms. I recommend good footwear because there are some slippery sections. The guide is friendly and knowledgeable. The tour lasts 1.5 hours, climbing a bit to reach the entrance, then the cave is almost level with little elevation change. At the start, there's a bar, restrooms, and a picnic area. Definitely worth a visit, without comparing it to other large caves: it's small but very cave-like."

"We weren't able to visit the cave despite all our efforts.
Around 12:00 PM, the ticket office closed, so we decided to continue toward Prato Nevoso, returning in the afternoon.
At 1:30 PM, after lunch, we decided to try calling the Google number, which turned out to be the Mondovì municipality number, which, obviously, doesn't answer on Saturdays.
We tried the second phone number, a cell phone, but no answer.
At this point, we returned to the caves, since the caves' website mentioned two visits, at 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM, and after lunch it was already 3:00 PM. We also naively tried to look at the Mondovì website (something similar), but it turned out to be unsecured and without https (in 2025 ✈️🇮🇹), making it virtually unusable.
Once we got there, we found two more numbers, one a cell phone that didn't answer and another landline, for the Prato Nevoso municipality. They finally answered, telling us that the last tour was at 2:30 PM.
If you don't want tourists, close the door now, do it quicker.
➡️ TIP: Go to the nearby Bossea Caves, very well-managed, with friendly staff and a beautiful visit. I've been there before, but I'm very happy to return!"

Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
While the caves themselves are engaging, the primary challenge for families might be ensuring the caves are actually open. Given the reported inconsistencies in operating hours, it's vital to call ahead and confirm tour times before making the trip. Having a backup plan, such as a nearby park or another attraction, could also be beneficial in case of unexpected closures.
🚶 Budget Travelers
However, budget travelers should be mindful of potential hidden costs or wasted travel time due to the reported unreliability of opening hours. If a trip to Caudano Caves is unsuccessful due to closures, having a low-cost alternative in mind, like exploring the local Frabosa Sottana area or a nearby free-access natural spot, could be a wise strategy.

Navigating Caudano Caves: What to Expect
One of the standout features highlighted by visitors is the quality of the guides. They are frequently described as friendly and knowledgeable, significantly enhancing the understanding and appreciation of the cave's geological wonders. This personal touch adds considerable value to the visit, making it a memorable experience even for those who have visited other caves.
However, it's essential to be prepared for the cave's natural state. The ground can be slippery, so wearing appropriate footwear is crucial. The lack of extensive artificial lighting and the raw, natural formations contribute to its charm but also require a degree of caution.
The Challenge of Access: Planning Your Visit
Contacting the caves can also be a challenge. Multiple phone numbers, including those listed online and on municipal sites, may not be answered, especially on weekends or holidays. This lack of reliable communication makes pre-trip planning difficult and increases the risk of a wasted journey.
Given these challenges, it is strongly advised to make direct contact with the caves well in advance of your visit to confirm their opening hours and tour schedules. If direct contact proves difficult, consider alternative nearby attractions like the Bossea Caves, which are noted for being well-managed and having friendly staff.
