I look forward to visiting EVERY year. By far one of my favorite gardens, Schreiner’s Iris gardens is a must visit during the month of May. Everything is at peak bloom where you can see and smell flowers you might have never seen before! You only have a few weekends left so make sure to make this a priority!

The Allure of Irises

Many visitors are captivated by the sheer volume and variety of irises. The bearded iris flower, known for its distinctive 'beard' on the lower petal, is a particular highlight. The garden provides a living catalog of these fascinating blooms, making it a must-visit for any flower enthusiast or gardener interested in growing irises. Instagram

Beyond the visual spectacle, the garden offers a sense of tranquility. The carefully curated beds and the gentle presence of the pond create a serene atmosphere. It’s a place where you can wander, appreciate nature’s artistry, and perhaps even find inspiration for your own garden, whether you're interested in planting iris bulbs or planting iris rhizomes. Reddit

Navigating the Terrain and Access

A key aspect of visiting the Iris Garden is understanding its unique access. The most common entry point is via Piazzale Michelangelo, a famous viewpoint offering panoramic vistas of Florence. From this popular piazza, visitors descend into the garden, which means navigating a considerable number of stairs. Reddit

This descent is part of the experience, offering evolving views as you go lower. However, it's crucial to remember that there is no exit at the bottom of the garden. Consequently, you will need to ascend all those stairs to return to Piazzale Michelangelo. While the garden is free, its layout and the stair-heavy access mean it might not be suitable for everyone, particularly those with mobility issues. Planning your visit with this in mind, perhaps by using the stairs strategically or considering alternative, less strenuous viewpoints of Florence, is advisable. Reddit
