We went to Sirmione. Ride takes no more than 20min and costs about 6€ per person both ways.
If you plan to come back to Desenzano make sure to check all the available arrivals and departures so you don’t get stuck. I believe the last one was at 20:00.
Masks are required, however, ferry crew will give you a mask if you don’t have one.
If you can tolerate a bit of sun, you can sit at the very top of the ferry. No shade or covers but a magnificent view of the lake and the wind blowing through your hair and clothes."
