"Amazing old church, really nice to visit"

The central body has an archaic layout with a gabled façade, a single nave, and a triumphal arch dividing the presbytery; the bell tower is Romanesque and dates back to the 11th century. The apse contains 16th-century frescoes. Originally dedicated to Saints Nazaro and Celso."

"It is the oldest place of worship in the municipality, already mentioned in a document from 846. The central body has an archaic layout with a gabled façade, a single nave and a triumphal arch dividing the presbytery; a Romanesque bell tower from the 11th century. In the apse there are frescoes from the 16th century. Originally dedicated to the saints Nazaro and Celso.
The ancient Romanesque building has been profoundly transformed. The gabled façade, where a niche with remains of a fresco depicting San Defendente stands out, has been entirely plastered and flanked by a mortuary chapel, the openings are all modern. The southern side of the church preserves the rustic walls without decorations built with different materials drowned in mortar and with a low but sturdy buttress and two large restored windows and a door. The northern side, also with a rustic wall and without ornaments, has a single window in the presbytery. The apse is small and completely devoid of decorations and openings, characteristics that testify to its archaic nature. The bell tower has a smooth and well-finished barrel with the most regular stones arranged for reinforcement at the corners, it has a covering in beola slabs and is crowned by an unusual lantern. The western side has the entrance with a round arch at the base, going up there are two narrow slits and a mullioned window with a small column on a tuff crutch capital. Only on the southern side is there a mirror at the bottom opened by a narrow slit and crowned by two slender arches resting on a simple pointed bracket. These characteristics allow us to attribute its construction to the 11th century and link it to the nearby bell tower of the church of Saints Primo and Feliciano in Leggiuno. The interior, rebuilt in later periods, has two bays covered by vaults. It seems that Cardinal Federico Borromeo had a witch burned in the square in front of the church in the seventeenth century. It is said that one day a year, for this reason, the lawn in the square turns red."
