Reviews Summary

Visitors are consistently impressed by the unexpected richness of Santa Maria del Suffragio's Baroque interior, a stark contrast to its plain exterior. The intricate plasterwork and unique skeletal motifs are frequently highlighted as memorable and thought-provoking artistic elements, alongside Giaquinto's stunning altarpiece.

"In the center of Cesena there is this small church with a bare, almost anonymous exterior, the interior, on the contrary, is rich in typically Baroque decorations. There are three altars with three altarpieces of excellent workmanship but the lion's share is made up of the plaster statues and the decorations with "nice" skeletons that remind us of the emptiness of life. On the other hand, it was commissioned by a brotherhood that was responsible for interceding for the souls in Purgatory, in the middle of the seventeenth century, when a skeleton was not denied to anyone."

Luciano Fallini

"Visiting this small sacred place can and should be a pleasant discovery for the visitor. Inside, in addition to exquisite decorations of rare beauty for this Romagna town, there is a marvelous altarpiece depicting the Nativity of the Virgin by Giaquinto, a splendid masterpiece by the artist, who donated another of his jewels to Cesena, inside the cathedral. It should be admired carefully."

Raffaele Capelli Rossi

"A point of reference for prayer of adoration with Mass at 9 am and exposition of the Blessed Sacrament both in the morning until 12 pm and in the afternoon from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm."
