Visitors rave about the Ruderi del Castello di Cefalù for its absolutely breathtaking panoramic views of the town and sea, calling it a must-do in Sicily. The historical atmosphere of the ruins is also highly appreciated. However, the steep and challenging hike, especially in the heat, requires good preparation with water and proper footwear.
"The walk up to the Ruderi del Castello di Cefalù is absolutely worth it. The path is a bit of a climb, but along the way you get incredible views of the sea, the town, and the surrounding mountains. By the time you reach the ruins at the top, the panorama is simply breathtaking, one of the best views in Sicily.
The castle itself is in ruins, but that’s part of its charm. You can really feel the history of the place, and combined with the natural beauty around it, the atmosphere is special. Just make sure to bring water and comfortable shoes, especially on hot days.
A must-do if you’re in Cefalù, both for the hike and for the unforgettable views.

"This hike offered incredible views of the area. There is an entrance fee of 5 euros that you can pay by cash or card. I decided to go up to the top as fast as possible and it took me 17 minutes from the entrance to the highest point, but I didn't stop once for water or photos. Most of the trail was in the sun and it was quite warm already when I did this hike, around 11:00 on August 13. It was fun to explore the ruins of the castle at the top and check out the different views, which were impressive. On the way down, I took my time to look at the various archeological sites and enjoy more of the vistas. I sort of lost my way down, so it's good to pay attention to what's around you. There is even a little cafe/restaurant at the entrance/exit. I highly recommend this hike for anyone that is physically healthy!!"

"Very nice view of the surounding area from the top. However, it is a steep up hill walk to the top. So, shoes are a must and bring water along since besides the entrance there is not place to buy.or refill water. The entrance fee is 5 eur/person, possible to pay with card."

The Ascent to Cefalù's Castle
There are different routes to consider. Some suggest following a 'green route' which offers more shade and opportunities for breaks, while a 'blue route' is noted for its archaeological sites but can become slippery. Regardless of the path chosen, the journey is as much about the panoramic vistas as it is about reaching the summit. The ruins themselves, though weathered by time, exude a palpable sense of history, creating a unique atmosphere that combines natural beauty with ancient echoes.
Visitors are advised to start their climb as early as possible, ideally when the site opens at 8 am, to avoid the peak heat and larger crowds. The entrance fee is €5, and payment can be made via cash or card. While the climb requires effort, the breathtaking 360-degree views from the top are universally praised as one of the most unforgettable sights in Sicily, making the entire endeavor well worth the exertion.
