"This museum is very very cool. Obviously skip through all the bits on the weirdo bishop who lived there. Just get to the bits on witchcraft and the Spanish Inquisition. Truly terrifying. As if that’s not enough you head downstairs to a display of morbidly fascinating torture devices that were used in by the horrible people in the church to make sure no one was friends with the devil. Fascinating."

"We visited this small museum as a family. €4 per adult and €3 for children under 10. It's very nice because they offer you a free audio guide or a file to read to complete the tour. The tour takes half an hour. My 9-year-old son found it interesting. You can see instruments of torture used during interrogations during the Inquisition."

The Chilling Exhibits: Inquisition and Witchcraft
One of the most impactful aspects of the museum is its collection of torture devices. These instruments, used during interrogations, are displayed to illustrate the harsh realities faced by those under suspicion. While unsettling, these exhibits provide a tangible connection to the past and highlight the extreme measures taken during this era. The museum aims to educate visitors about these historical practices and the beliefs that underpinned them.
Beyond the more sensational aspects, the museum also delves into old Sardinian popular beliefs. This offers a broader context of the cultural landscape during the Inquisition, showing how religious doctrine intersected with local traditions and superstitions. The combination of these elements makes for a comprehensive, albeit somber, historical experience.
Understanding the Value: Tickets and Tours
The museum tour itself is relatively brief, typically lasting around 30 minutes. This makes it an ideal stop for those with limited time or as part of a larger itinerary. To enhance the understanding of the exhibits, the museum provides free audio guides or reading files. These resources are invaluable for grasping the historical context and the significance of the artifacts on display, especially for those unfamiliar with the intricacies of the Inquisition and local folklore.
For families, the museum can be an engaging, albeit intense, experience. While children under 10 have a reduced ticket price, the subject matter, particularly the torture devices, might be more suitable for older children (10+) who can process the historical context without being overly distressed.
