What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors appreciate Forte Focardo for its stunning panoramic sea views and the beautiful surrounding nature, including scenic walking trails and a hidden beach. However, many are disappointed by the limited access to the fort's interior and lighthouse, as it's a functioning military site. The lack of clear directions can also be a minor inconvenience.
"Fort recently renovated inside, it also has a working lighthouse but it is possible to visit everything only on days allowed by the Navy or on days by the FAI, it is surrounded by high walls. The exterior is surrounded by a beautiful pine forest and a path leads to a small hidden beach! It would be nice if there were more days with access to also visit the internal area and the lighthouse which has a beautiful view!"

"There were almost no directions. We had to ask a local. The fort itself is not open to visitors as it is owned by the Italian Navy, but the view of the gulf is fantastic. The GPS navigation system will direct you to take a dirt road about 600 meters before your destination. I recommend parking your car and walking."

"The fort is accessible from the town of Naregno via a path, but unfortunately it is not open to visitors. Its construction dates back to 1678 by order of the local governor. It is now owned by the Navy and houses the Capo Focardo lighthouse and military personnel quarters. The rear, overlooking the sea at Capo Perla, is also very beautiful."
