"It's unfortunately not possible to visit :-("
Christopher Geoghegan
"With its imposing size, it dominates the Costa Balena promontory, between Arma di Taggia and Sanremo. It was built in 1564-65 after the population of Taggia and Bussana was subjected to pirate attacks.
It has a rhomboid plan, and is massive and charismatic, nestled in a virtually untouched natural environment. It provides excellent visibility throughout the area and used a system of beacons to alert the towers of Aregai and Porto Maurizio of the presence of Saracen ships.
Located opposite Bussana beach, a stone's throw from the Area 24 cycle path, it has remained virtually unchanged over the years, on an ancient promontory that is home to unique flora and fauna, including the Arma cave."

"Natural heritage of this kind, of this magnitude, does not deserve abandonment. It requires heavy intervention in terms of maintenance and thinning. The tower dates back to 1563, in order to prevent pirate incursions, which infested the coast at that time. I repeat, we cannot abandon historical heritage of this magnitude.
