Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the breathtaking, free panoramic views of Bologna from San Michele in Bosco Belvedere, often noting its peaceful, local atmosphere compared to more crowded tourist spots. The easy walk and the beauty of the surrounding park are also frequently praised, making it a highly recommended, accessible experience.

"Definitely the most beautiful hilltop view point to see the old city of Bologna, including its multiple ancient towers. And of course, FREE.

It was recommended to me by multiple locals and I was afraid this will be a super touristy spot, something like Piazzale Michelangelo in Florence. Well, not at all!

Located about ~20 minutes of normal walking pace from the central square (Piazza Maggiore), the last third is only slightly up the hill, so suitable for pretty much any fitness level. Using map's walking navigation, one of the direct routes through the lower part of the park was closed off, so I had to walk around for extra 5 minutes, but it was easy to find.

Also, some of the path I took near the viewpoint did not have a sidewalk and I had to walk on the side of the road - maybe it's safer to walk a bit around through the grounds of the Church of San Michele in Bosco.

In June, there weren't very many people - mostly young locals hanging around, sitting on the wall, chatting on phones or each other. I saw maybe 10 tourists within the hour I spent there. And I loved it, very cool experience!"
