Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise the Oratorio di San Colombano for its stunning collection of antique musical instruments and the beautiful, historic building it's housed in. The audio guide is highly recommended for bringing the instruments to life. Some visitors noted feeling a bit closely monitored by staff and found the temperature uncomfortable at times.

"Absolutely AMAZING museum. They have really beautiful and interesting instruments, in a wonderful building. I highly recommend this for anyone, especially (but not only) musicians!"

Ben D

"An amazing collection of instruments from nearly 500 years ago, in a beautiful classic building in the heart of bologna.

There's a lot of potential for this collection, and I just think it's a travesty to have these machines collected in one place, no longer serving their purpose of making music! As a visitor you can listen to recordings of the instruments on your phone, but I found it very difficult to resist the urge to play them and hear the acoustics in real life! Surely there is a small robot that could be built that allows guests to hear these things in all their glory?

The temperature made it hard to stay in one place, and we were followed around by a lady working there which made us feel a bit uncomfortable."

Bill “BillyBub” Boskins

"I liked this Museum more than Museo Internazionale and Biblioteca della Music as the instruments were more colorful. The palace, where the museum is, was made on the old church of Saint Colombano probably from 616 AD, there are beautiful frescoes on the walls and some ruins downstairs. I am not so interested in the musical instruments, but they were so beautifully painted and so old. Don't forget to ask about free audio guide :) With Bologna Welcome Card Easy you will enter here free of charge. You need about 1 hour to see everything with rather slow pace :)"
