SETHU MARIA GEORGE
"The Basilica of San Sebastiano, along with the monastery of San Girolamo, represents the highest expression of the Biella Renaissance. It was commissioned and financed by Sebastiano Ferrero, who employed artists from the Lombardy region for the masonry. The foundation stone of the church was laid in 1500, and in recognition of the patron, it was dedicated to San Sebastiano. The name of the architect is unknown, but it is not far from the truth to think of a master from the Bramante school. It was built by Maestro Eusebio, who was present at the laying of the foundation stone, blessed by Cardinal Stefano Ferrero, son of the founder. The walls of the church were already completed in 1504, although it was not consecrated until 1540 by Monsignor Guglielmo di Gattinara, Bishop of Nicomedia. Along with the church, a convent was also built to house the Canons Regular of the Lateran, for whom Ferrero had intended the church."
Paolo Sartori
"A 16th-century basilica, an example of Renaissance architecture, with excellent paintings by Piedmontese artists inside."
