"Beautiful place!"
Bartłomiej Jabłoński
"The church houses the icon of the Madonna dello Sterpeto. The image was found by some farmers among ruins and brushwood during the great plague epidemic of 1656. The discovery coincided with a drastic drop in infections and the locals believed it was a grace from the newly found Madonna. From then on, the faith spread ever more strongly and in 1731 the Madonna dello Sterpeto was proclaimed protector of the city of Barletta. The Sanctuary is made up of the small old church and the larger one built later to accommodate an ever-increasing number of faithful."
