Advice on visiting Barolo/Barbaresco?
Drank yesterday with some wine friends. My favorites were the Cornelissen Magma and the Roagna Barbaresco Paje Vecchie Viti (Dom was corked). Overall young but stunning wines.

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about the exceptional quality of Gaja wines and the breathtaking vineyard landscapes surrounding the winery. The knowledgeable guides and the rich history of the estate are frequently highlighted as positive aspects of the experience. However, some guests express disappointment regarding the difficulty in purchasing wines directly at the winery and limited accessibility during holiday periods.
"Correct address for winery tour is Via Torino 5. not 18. 18 is their office.
Cozy space and beautiful landscape on the hill."

"Unfortunatelly, it's not possible to buy their wines, not to mention to have a tour while you are in Barbaresco. Around New year everyrhing was closed. Not sure if it is possible to book a tour or buy their wines anyway.
I can understand that they are famous and have a lot of visits and maybe can't handle all that. But my main disappointment is that you can't try and buy their wine while in Barbaresco, not even in Enoteca regionale. Or any other that was open at that time. Shame. It looks like marketing campaign to increase the walue of their wine by making it more rare. Instead, they could be a brand inviting people to come to this small village making it more famous."

"Some of the best wines coming out of the area. If you're lucky enough to be near an open bottle make sure you sneak a taste."

👨👩👧 Families with Kids
When planning your visit, inquire if there are any specific areas accessible or suitable for younger visitors during a tour. Alternatively, focus on the broader Barbaresco experience, perhaps enjoying a picnic with local produce amidst the vineyards (where permitted) or visiting the town's central piazza, which can be more engaging for children than a formal winery tour.
💰 Budget Travelers
Instead of a full winery tour, you might opt to visit a local enoteca (wine shop) in Barbaresco or Alba to sample a wider range of regional wines, including potentially more accessible Gaja bottlings like Promis or Sito Moresco, at a lower price point than a guided tasting. Enjoying a picnic with local cheeses and bread in a scenic spot can also be a delightful and economical way to experience the region.
