Reviews Summary

Visitors find the Abbey of Santo Spirito al Morrone impressive for its historical significance as a former Celestinian convent and its surviving 12th-century art. However, many note the frustratingly strange and limited opening hours, which can hinder visits. The abbey's past as a prison and the loss of treasures also add a layer of melancholy to its otherwise striking architecture. Reddit+1

"This former abbacy was once the main convent of Celestinians - followers of st Pope Celestin V. Now we can see the result of reconstructions of XVIII century so it's not as old as I want))) Moreover after secularization the convent "works" as a prison and most part of its treasuries were taken to museums or thieved. So it's more like nut-shell than real nut but it's still impressive. You can visit three cloisters of five, the former church, refectorium and library
Be careful: the convent is open for visitors with very strange timetable (see one of the photos)"
