Reviews Summary

Visitors are captivated by the unique underwater ruins of Baia and the historical significance of Castello di Baia, offering stunning views. While the journey and some aspects of Naples can be gritty, the archaeological discoveries and the authentic Italian experience are highly rewarding.

"Nice place charming beach. It is not very well marked on google. It toom us some time to get there and find it. You have to take a small boat that comes every 10 min to pick up people. You pay on arrival, although they wrote 35 euros they took 50 for 2 people, 1 umbrella and 2 chairs.
There is also a place to eat.
Nice experience in general:)"

Gwenda Haikal

Exploring the Submerged City of Baia

Baia was once a glamorous Roman resort town, renowned for its luxurious villas, thermal baths, and vibrant social scene. However, due to a geological phenomenon called bradyseism, much of the ancient city has gradually sunk beneath the waves of the Bay of Naples. Today, the Underwater Archaeological Park of Baia preserves these remarkable ruins, offering a unique window into Roman life. Visitors can explore submerged mosaics, statues, and architectural remnants that tell the story of this once-thriving coastal metropolis. Reddit+1

Experiencing these underwater wonders can be done in a few ways. For a less immersive but still fascinating view, the Cymba glass-bottom boat allows you to peer into the clear waters and see the ancient structures below. For a more intimate encounter, scuba diving in Baia is an unforgettable adventure, allowing certified divers to swim amongst the ruins. The dive sites vary in depth, offering different perspectives on the city's layout and preserved features. Reddit+1

Even if you don't dive, the archaeological park above water is equally captivating. Here, you can walk through the remnants of ancient thermal complexes and villas, imagining the opulence of Roman times. The Piscina Mirabilis, a colossal ancient Roman cistern, is another must-see, showcasing incredible engineering. Combined with the historical insights from the Castello di Baia museum, a visit to this area provides a comprehensive understanding of Baia's rich past. Reddit
