What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Pila Ski Area is generally well-regarded for its friendly atmosphere, affordable mountain food, and excellent panoramic views. While the snowpark is a highlight, some visitors have experienced significant ticket purchase delays. The resort offers a good balance of slopes for intermediates and beginners, though it can get busy with school groups.
"No wait, everything just perfect. Nice views in summer and easy way to get on top. 8€ to Pila, but keep in mind if you do not have a lot of time to hike, ski lifts adds another 16€."
Laurynas
"Lovely little ski resort, 2 hours drive from Milan Malpensa. Very reasonably priced food in the mountain restaurants (much cheaper than France) and minimal queues for the lifts. Popular with (mostly English) school groups so quite a few beginner groups on the blue slopes. Just about enough pistes to keep intermediates interested for a week. Not many blue slopes but some of the reds were relatively easy (eg 2,9,14) and some harder (eg particularly 3 and 16 at the top). Blue 15 a good, wide beginner slope with a few steeper bits. Not many restaurants or shops in the town but enough for a short ski break and all good quality."

Navigating Pila's Pistes
When planning your day, consider the Aosta Valley piste map to orient yourself and choose runs that match your ability. The resort's layout means that while there might not be an overwhelming number of blue slopes, the reds offer good variety. Always check the snow report Pila Aosta Valley before you go to ensure the best possible conditions for your chosen runs.
Pro Tip: Some of the red slopes, like 2, 9, and 14, are noted as being more accessible for intermediates, while runs like 3 and 16 are steeper. Blue 15 is a good, wide option for beginners with some varied sections.
Summer Activities and Value
However, it's important to note that the cost of using the ski lifts in summer can add up significantly if your primary goal is not skiing. If you're looking for hiking opportunities without the need for extensive lift access, there might be more cost-effective options in the broader Aosta region. For those who do plan to use the lifts for high-altitude hiking or simply to enjoy the views, the experience can be rewarding, but it's crucial to factor in the additional expense beyond the initial gondola ticket.
Understanding Pila's Pricing and Value
However, potential visitors should be aware of the ticketing process. A significant point of frustration for some has been the long wait times to purchase lift tickets, with reports of over 30 minutes due to limited open ticket windows and sometimes non-functional automated distributors. To mitigate this, purchasing tickets online in advance is highly recommended.
Key Takeaway: While the resort offers good value on food and a generally pleasant skiing experience, proactive planning for ticket purchase is essential to avoid delays and maximize your time on the slopes.
