Reviews Summary

Visitors praise the Anzio Lighthouse for its stunning sunset views and the fascinating historical context provided by the adjacent ruins of Nero's Villa. It's considered a beautiful and atmospheric spot, offering a unique blend of natural beauty and ancient history. Some note that while the lighthouse is functional, the surrounding structures could benefit from more maintenance.

"Beautiful beach!"

Anca A.

"Beautiful place."

Bahatawi Records

"In one of the most beautiful panoramic points stands the Anzio Lighthouse, located in Capo d'Anzio in the province of Rome. It has a fascinating history that dates back to the Middle Ages. Initially, the Frangipane family built a coastal tower to monitor the incursions of Saracen pirates. In 1645, the tower was rebuilt due to its poor state of repair, but was destroyed again in 1813 by English warships.

The current lighthouse was erected between 1860 and 1866 at the behest of Pope Pius IX on the occasion of his episcopal jubilee, as a tribute from the three Roman Academies: Pontifical Archaeology, Insigne delle Belle Arti di S. Luca and Pontifical dei Lincei. However, the lighthouse only became operational in 1870.

Today, the lighthouse stands 21 meters high on a crenellated tower and projects two beams of light towards the sea, illuminating the ruins of Nero's ancient villa located at its feet. It is an important reference point for sailors and a symbol of light and memory for the city of Anzio.

You can also walk on the beach below along the ruins of Nero's immense villa, a pleasant place to visit in any season"
