What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Scots House Jerusalem offers a historic stay with beautiful views and peaceful gardens, praised for its location and renovated rooms. However, some guests have reported issues with pests and customer service, and the lack of an elevator is a key consideration.
"The Worst Hotel Experience of My Life — A Complete Disgrace
I booked this hotel for my wife’s birthday expecting a pleasant night. Instead, it turned into a nightmare. We checked in around 10 p.m., only to discover mosquitoes flying all over the room. We asked for insect repellent or any kind of solution, but the staff coldly told us they had none.
Within an hour we were being bitten nonstop, forced to leave the hotel in the middle of the night, after paying 983 shekels for the room.
When I went to the reception, the staff promised that the manager would contact us about a refund. Of course, nobody ever called. When I followed up the next day, I was told that the night receptionist “did not find any mosquito in the room,” and therefore they would not refund anything.
This is the worst service I’ve ever experienced in any hotel — unprofessional, dismissive, and completely disrespectful toward guests. To charge nearly 1,000 shekels for a room full of mosquitoes, offer no help whatsoever, and then deny what happened is beyond unacceptable.
If you value your health, your comfort, or even the most basic level of customer care — stay far away from this place."

"We checked in around 10 p.m. for my birthday night and immediately noticed mosquitoes flying all over the room. We asked the reception for bug repellent or any help, but they said they had none available. Within an hour, my husband and I were bitten all over and had to leave the hotel in the middle of the night after paying 983 shekels for the room.
The receptionist said the manager would contact us regarding a refund, but no one ever called. When we followed up the next day, we were told that the receptionist “didn’t find any mosquito in the room,” so there would be no compensation.
Worst service imaginable, total lack of professionalism and respect for guests."

"I had an absolutely wonderful stay at St. Andrews Guesthouse in Jerusalem. The location couldn't have been more perfect, allowing me to easily access all the tourist attractions while enjoying a peaceful and quiet environment. The availability of parking was a huge plus.
The highlight of my stay was undoubtedly the breathtaking views I got to enjoy from both the garden and the terrace. There's something truly magical about starting your day with a stunning view that stretches out in front of you.
The comfortable and serene ambiance of the grounds made it easy to relax and unwind after a day of exploring. I appreciated being able to escape the hustle and bustle while still being close to everything I wanted to see.
The included breakfast provided a great start to my morning."

The Historic Charm of Scots House
Visitors often highlight the serene ambiance that pervades the property. Unlike the bustling city outside, Scots House provides a tranquil sanctuary. This peaceful atmosphere is enhanced by the presence of well-maintained gardens and a terrace that offers spectacular views of the Old City. It’s a place where you can truly unwind and soak in the historical significance of your surroundings.
While the building is historic, the accommodations have been updated. Rooms are described as recently renovated, clean, and comfortable, ensuring that guests can enjoy modern conveniences alongside the historical charm. This blend of old and new makes Scots House a unique and appealing option for travelers seeking an authentic Jerusalem experience.
Guest Experience and Amenities
Practical amenities contribute to a comfortable stay. Guests appreciate the availability of parking, a significant plus in Jerusalem. The included breakfast is also a highlight, described as a small buffet with a good variety of well-prepared foods, setting a positive tone for the day.
However, it's important to note a key aspect of the guesthouse's structure: there is no elevator. This means guests will need to navigate stairs to reach their rooms. While this is a common feature in historic buildings, it's a crucial detail for those with mobility concerns or heavy luggage.
Navigating Potential Issues
This particular review highlights a concern about customer service and problem resolution. The guest felt the staff was unprofessional and dismissive when addressing the issue, leading to a highly negative overall impression. It's advisable to confirm the hotel's policies on pest control and refunds when booking, especially if traveling during warmer months. [^Review]
Another point to consider is the room size. While rooms are generally clean and comfortable, some guests have noted that they can be on the smaller side, though bathrooms are often spacious. This is a common trade-off in historic city center accommodations.
